[UPDATE] Police Search for Vehicle that Fatally Struck Jacob Conroy in Huntington Beach
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (January 25, 2021) – On January 24, Jacob Conroy, 29, died in a hit-and-run accident on Goldenwest Street.
The initial collision happened around 7:15 p.m., said Huntington Beach police Lt. Brian Smith.
Moreover, it occurred southbound on Goldenwest Street, north of Oxford Drive.
After being hit by a hit-and-run vehicle, another car struck the pedestrian. The second driver stopped, and stayed at the scene.
“Based upon the preliminary investigation, it appears the victim was crossing Goldenwest Street outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a black SUV,” Smith revealed.
“The vehicle failed to stop at the scene and was last seen traveling westbound on Oxford Drive from Goldenwest Street, with significant damage to its front end and windshield.”
A concerned passersby stopped to help the injured pedestrian. Unfortunately, the paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
Later on, the Orange County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 29-year-old Conroy.
The authorities urged anyone who witnessed the Goldenwest Street accident to contact Huntington Beach Police Traffic Investigator D. Demetre at 714-536-5670 or Investigator V. Rattanchandani at 714-536-5663.
Huntington Police again requested the help of the public to identify the full-sized SUV with dark tinted windows similar to a newer-model Chevrolet Tahoe or Cadillac Escalade.
The search for the at large driver continues as of April 27.
