Iya Ortiz-Beck Injured after McKinleyville Rollover Accident
MCKINLEYVILLE, CA (June 13, 2019) – A female teen identified as Iya Sol Ortiz-Beck suffered injuries in a rollover crash on Tuesday, June 11.
Around 12:15 p.m., the California Highway Patrol Humboldt Area responded to a report of a rollover crash on Highway 101 near Cranell Road. An officer in the area discovered an overturned Volkswagen Beetle just south of the Mad Little River Bridge.
Based on the initial investigation, it appeared that she drove south on Highway 101 at approximately 65 mph. For unknown reasons, she then allowed the VW to move across the median and into the northbound lane. After that, she eventually over-corrected as she tried to steer her vehicle back into the southbound lanes. This consequently caused the VW to roll over as a result.
17-year-old Ortiz-Beck, a resident of Trinidad, was not wearing a seat belt at the time. The impact also ejected her from the vehicle. Paramedics rushed her to Mad River Community Hospital for further treatment of major injuries.
Furthermore, impairment is not believed to be a factor in this crash. The authorities are still currently investigating the collision.
One small driving mistake can lead to disastrous and unfortunate results. It is important to drive defensively and always abide by all driving laws to ensure your safety and the safety of surrounding motorists.
