2 Drivers Arrested in Deadly DUI Pedestrian Crash on Highway 101 at Third Avenue
SAN MATEO, CA (January 19, 2020) – A woman died after getting out of a vehicle that had been rear-ended early Sunday morning in San Mateo.
The fatal incident happened around 1:49 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 at Third Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a white Toyota Yaris was rear-ended by a white Dodge Charger. After the initial crash, a female passenger got out of the Yaris, walked east across traffic lanes and talk to the Dodge driver.
That was when a black Toyota Camry struck her on foot and then collided with the Dodge.
As a result, the woman died at the scene. The San Mateo County coroner’s office identified her as Ivania Torres, 50, of South San Francisco.
Meanwhile, two passengers, one from the Yaris and the second from the Camry, were transported to Stanford Hospital for complaints of pain.
Police arrested both drivers of the Dodge and the Camry on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Their names were not immediately released.
