Injuries Reported in Rock Island Multi-Vehicle Accident on Batterman Road and State Route 28
ROCK ISLAND, WA (October 21, 2024) – Saturday afternoon, Itati Montemejia and another person suffered injuries in a crash on Batterman Road.
The incident occurred at around 12:31 p.m. near the intersection of Batterman Road and State Route 28.
The Washington State Patrol reported that the crash involved three vehicles. The first vehicle, still unidentified, turned east onto SR28 from Batterman Road, creating a hazardous situation. Vehicle two, heading west on SR28, swerved to avoid the first vehicle but collided with vehicle three, which had been stopped at the intersection, waiting to turn west.
The impact caused vehicles two and three to veer into a ditch, with the trailer of vehicle two blocking Batterman Road. The first vehicle, responsible for the incident, fled east on SR28, making it a hit-and-run.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, and two individuals were taken to Central Washington Hospital. Among the injured was Montemejia, 16, from Rock Island, a passenger in vehicle three. Both injured parties had seatbelts on, which likely reduced the severity of their injuries.
The drivers of vehicle two, Christopher James, 53, from Cashmere, and vehicle three, Adriana Montes, 43, from Rock Island, were unharmed. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seatbelts.
The crash was caused by the first vehicle’s failure to yield at the intersection. Authorities are still investigating and are working to locate the driver of the first vehicle, described as a white pickup truck, which fled the scene.

Gas costs have yet to descend, and even so, traffic on California highways has carried on as busy and dangerous as ever.
Hence, it is important to drive defensively/abide by all driving laws. Moreover, this will ensure your safety and the safety of surrounding vehicles, motorists, and pedestrians.
The aftershock of an accident cannot be dealt with alone. The burden is meant to be shared; preferably, with a community that knows how to handle the effects
