CLOVIS, CA (September 20, 2019) – Two men were killed after their SUV flipped Friday night in Clovis, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 6:35 p.m. on Highway 168, just east of Shepherd Avenue.
Authorities said a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse was heading eastbound on Highway 168 when the driver lost control. The SUV then veered across both lanes and onto the north shoulder, overturning several times.
Both the driver and passenger were ejected during the crash. Paramedics took them to Community Regional Medical Center where they were pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The victims were identified as Ismael Cortez, 20, and Daniel Ruiz, 21, both of Fresno. Neither of them was wearing a seat belt.
Alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash, but speed was, according to the CHP. Further investigation is underway.
