Road accidents can happen anytime, anywhere, and to anyone. One small driving mistake can lead to disastrous results. That is why it is important to drive defensively and to always abide by all driving laws. This way, you can ensure your safety and the safety of surrounding vehicles, motorists, and pedestrians.
Getting Involved in a Crash is Dangerous
Despite the additional safety features on newer vehicle models, crash rates in Washington continue to increase, rather than decrease.
As a matter of fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), two out of three motorists will suffer injuries from a traffic accident during their life.
Sad but true, auto accidents are a major public health threat. They are a leading cause of death for individuals ages 5-64.
That is why it is valuable to know what to do if you get into a motor vehicle accident.
Meanwhile, here are some of the things that we can do to practice defensive driving and avoid accidents:
- First, always drive at a controllable speed.
- Then, it is also important not to assume you know the other driver’s intention.
- Also, prepare to positively react to other drivers.
- This one, we should never neglect. Yield at intersections, even if you have right of way.
- Most importantly, stay focused on the road. Removing all distractions such as mobile phone use, unstrapped toddlers, can help us focus on the road.
