Josh Anderson Arrested after Hit-And-Run Crash on State Route 73 in Navajo County
Navajo County, AZ (November 27, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, Iris Billy died in a hit-and-run crash on State Route 73 involving a White Mountain Apache police officer.
The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office accuses Josh Anderson of striking and killing a pedestrian southeast of Pinetop Lakeside on SR 73 at around 3:30 a.m. on November 23.
Allegedly, he then fled the scene. During its investigation, the White Mountain Apache Police Department identified Anderson’s patrol unit as the vehicle involved in the incident with Iris Billy. The vehicle exhibited damage consistent with a pedestrian crash.
On November 24, police apprehended Anderson at his residence in Whiteriver, Arizona. After his arrest, Anderson tendered his resignation to the department.
Anderson now faces multiple violations of the tribe’s criminal code, including assault, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless assault, reckless driving, obstructing a police officer, death by vehicle, and leaving the scene of a fatal collision.
