59-Year-Old Modesto Woman Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver near Chapman Road
MODESTO, CA (December 5, 2018) – A woman was killed Wednesday evening following a hit-and-run crash at Pelandale Avenue and Chapman Road. The victim was later identified as 59-year-old Irene Marie Arellano, a resident of Modesto.
According to the Modesto Police Department, the incident happened near the Cost Plus World Market, at about 9:00 PM. A pedestrian was walking south in the crosswalk when she was struck by an eastbound Volkswagen Jetta.
Arellano suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, the unidentified Jetta driver did not stop to render aid and immediately fled the area.
The wrecked vehicle was later found in a neighborhood about 2.5 miles from the collision site.
