Police Investigate Startling Crash on Interstate 10 [Palm Desert, CA]

Car Caught Fire After Crash on Interstate 10 in Palm Desert

Palm Desert, CA (May 9, 2024) – Following a domestic violence incident, police pursued a suspect which culminated in a rollover crash on Interstate 10 near the Date Palm exit in Cathedral City. 

The pursuit began around 9:00 PM after deputies responded to a call at an apartment complex on the 77000 block of Country Club Road in Palm Desert, as reported by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

A public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, stated, “The suspect assaulted the victim, stole some of her belongings, and fled in his vehicle.” 

Authorities also discovered that the suspect had an outstanding felony warrant for evasion and was on probation.

Deputies located the suspect in his vehicle at the apartment complex. When they attempted to stop him, he fled, initiating the pursuit. 

Our cameras recorded a high-speed chase on the westbound Interstate 10, captured by our I-10 camera near the Auto Mall shortly before the crash.

The pursuit led to the area of Interstate 10 and Date Palm, where the suspect collided with another vehicle, causing his own to rollover.

The suspect’s vehicle caught fire, but he managed to escape with minor injuries.

A News Channel 3 crew at the scene witnessed a vehicle overturned and first responders attending to a second vehicle with a stretcher.

Authorities took the suspect into custody and transported him to a local hospital. 

He was later charged with domestic violence, robbery, evading, and other offenses.

The crash briefly disrupted traffic on the westbound side of the I-10, but it resumed normal flow by midnight.
