At Least 1 Hurt in Claribel 3-Vehicle Collision at Albers Road and Claribel Road
CLARIBEL, CA (August 08, 2019) – A multi-vehicle collision at Albers Road and Claribel Road Tuesday morning may have been caused by a driver who fell asleep at the wheel.
The California Highway Patrol said the incident occurred at around 11:45 a.m. It involved five people and three vehicles – a maroon Dodge Nitro compact SUV, a small silver Ford SUV, and a small white Ford sedan.
The northbound Ford sedan stopped at a red light at Claribel Road with the Nitro stopped behind it. Meanwhile, the Ford SUV was northbound on Albers Road approaching the vehicles from behind.
The light turned green and the Ford sedan and Nitro had just begun moving forward. That’s when the Ford SUV rear-ended the Nitro.
The crash caused the Nitro to swerve to the right and strike the Ford sedan. It rolled over until finally coming to a rest on its roof. The Ford SUV veered left and stopped at the intersection.
The Nitro and Ford sedan drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles. However, the driver of the Ford SUV had two passengers.
Based on the statement of the driver of Ford SUV, he fell asleep while driving. However, it was unknown how fast the vehicle was going at the time of the crash. Officers do not believe that alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident.
All injuries were minor as per CHP. However, the number of injured parties was not immediately available.
In the meantime, officials directed traffic while they investigate and clear the scene until about 12:45 p.m.
