Police Investigate Crash on Highway 24 in Orinda

Orinda, CA (December 13, 2024) – Multiple people were sent to hospitals after a crash on Highway 24.

A vehicle crashed into the rear of a fire truck on CA-Highway 24 in Orinda on Friday while it was responding to a traffic accident, sending multiple people to the hospital, according to the Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD).

The incident occurred at 12:25 p.m. when MOFD Engine 43, working alongside the Oakland Fire Department, responded to a car accident west of the Caldecott Tunnel. 

The fire truck was parked near the center divider to secure the scene when a passenger vehicle struck its rear at freeway speeds.

Authorities have not revealed the exact number of people in the passenger vehicle but confirmed that all occupants were transported to nearby hospitals. 

Additionally, two MOFD firefighters were taken to the hospital for evaluations. Officials have not released details on the severity of the injuries.

Investigators are determining the cause of the crash, and no information is currently available about potential charges.
