2 Injured in Stockton Auto Accident near Park Street and Pilgrim Street
STOCKTON, CA (October 5, 2023) – Monday night, a startling pursuit crash near Park Street and Pilgrim Street led to injuries.
The incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. near the Park and Pilgrim Streets intersection. According to reports, two people were in a car when four young men pulled up and stole the car at gunpoint.
Suspected carjackers reportedly wielded a rifle at occupants of a two-door green Ford sedan with a white bumper before making their getaway in the stolen vehicle, based on archived police scanner transmissions.
Subsequently, the carjackers fled the scene on Fremont Street near Eastland Plaza, where their stolen car collided with a red vehicle, resulting in injuries to the two individuals inside. This information was confirmed by a police spokesperson and video footage of the incident.
One video clip captures a red sedan halted on the sidewalk with its trunk and driver’s side door ajar. Another video shows at least three police officers, positioned behind a police SUV, seemingly pointing their weapons at the green two-door car with a white bumper.
In one video, an officer urgently instructs, “Open the door, passenger!” The passenger inside the car slumps over onto the dashboard. The officer continues, “Open the door, and we will help you!” Ultimately, the individual had to be forcibly removed from the vehicle, as recounted by eyewitness Nickolas Rivera, who witnessed the incident while he was at a tortas eatery.
Rivera stated, “The occupants of the other car involved were seen limping away from the scene.”
During the early hours of Tuesday morning, four men aged between 18 and 24 were taken into custody and booked at San Joaquin County Jail on a range of charges, including carjacking, weapons offenses, and evading a police officer resulting in serious injury or death, according to custody records.
Prosecutors have until Thursday to file charges against the suspected thieves; otherwise, they may be released. The 39-year-old man and 34-year-old woman in the bystander vehicle were hospitalized for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to Officer David Scott.
