Suspect Still At Large after Newhall Accident on Oakridge Drive near Railroad Avenue
NEWHALL, CA (May 19, 2022) – Wednesday night, a pursuit crash on Oakridge Drive near Railroad Avenue led to injuries.
The incident happened at about 5:30 p.m. during a crime suppression operation. Then, school resource deputies noticed a stolen vehicle driving on Oakridge Drive near Railroad Avenue
“As deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled,”, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga. Arriaga is the spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “A brief pursuit was initiated, however, was later terminated due to unsafe speeds.”
After the chase termination, the suspect lost control and crashed with at least five parked cars on Walnut Street and Lyons Avenue. Then, the suspect fled on foot and the deputies set up containment.
Witnesses confirmed that the driver traveled at speeds exceeding 60 mph before the crash.
“A search of the area was conducted, however, the male driver was not located,” Arriaga added.
Then, the suspect’s female passenger became trapped in the vehicle. Moreover, crews extricated the passenger and took her to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
At this time, the suspect remained at large. Due to the limited information available, the authorities continue to investigate the crash.
It is important to always abide by all traffic laws and to do your part to prevent devastating consequences to you and others. Thus, if you find yourself unable to safely operate a vehicle, there are always other options for transportation.
