UNION GAP, WA (December 22, 2021) – Tuesday, a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 82 and Rudkin Road.
 
The crash began around 10:00 a.m. when a trooper stopped to the right shoulder of Interstate 82 near exit 36 toward Union Gap.
 
“After that vehicle was contacted, the vehicle pulled back into traffic in an unsafe manner and caused the crash,” WSP Sgt. Rob Morris revealed.
 
The vehicle pulled out in front of a FedEx truck. Then, it moved to avoid crashing into them. However, an SUV rear-ended it.
 
According to reports, the crash involved a semi-truck and several other vehicles. Moreover, it occurred on Interstate 82 that backed up eastbound traffic.
 
“We’re just fortunate that nobody was hurt or killed and the injuries that happened here were minor,” WSP Sgt. Rob Morris revealed.
 
Morris confirmed that the semi-truck driver noticed the crash happen. Thus, the driver locked up his brakes to prevent hitting a trooper parked on the shoulder.
 
Then, the truck jackknifed crashed into the fence dividing the freeway from Rudkin Road. Fortunately, it missed the other vehicles altogether.
 
“He did the safest thing he could at that time to avoid causing injury or death to other people on the highway,” Morris added. “As far as we can tell, he did the right thing.”
 
Washington State Patrol troopers confirmed that the crash involved a semi-truck and several other vehicles on Interstate 82.
 
Furthermore, the driver who caused the crash has been cooperative with the investigation. Also, he will likely face criminal charges.
