57-Year-Old Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Bicycle-Car Collision on 4th Street and Palm Avenue
IMPERIAL BEACH, CA (February 25, 2018) – A bicyclist was injured in a collision on the intersection of 4th Street and Palm Avenue on Saturday evening.
The victim, a 57-year-old woman, was one of three adults who were riding east in the bicycle lane of Palm Ave around 5:15 PM. According to the Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Karl Miller, a vehicle that was turning left from Palm Ave at the time struck her as the eastbound cyclists crossed 4th.
The victim was thrown off her bike and landed on the car windshield. The impact caused a large dent and cracks in the window, and the female victim was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The car driver stopped immediately and cooperated with investigators. He reportedly stated that he did not see the victim until she hit his car’s windshield. The intersection of 4th Street and Palm Avenue was shut down with officials investigated the scene of the accident. Authorities believe that drugs and alcohol were not involved in the crash.
