Idalia Perez, Martha Colin and Three Kids Killed in Big Rig Crash on Interstate 5
Firebaugh, CA (January 08, 2021) – On Tuesday, 32-year-old Idalia Perez and 52-year-old Martha Colin died in a tragic big rig crash on Interstate 5.
The fatal accident took place at about 9 p.m., wherein three kids were also killed.
Perez who was eight months pregnant, her three kids, and her mother-in-law were riding a pickup truck that crashed head-on with a big rig.
As a result, the truck burst into flames while the cardboard carrying big rig also caught fire.
The victims include a 1-year-old, an 8-year-old, and a 10-year-old kid. Officer said the victims appear to be from Northern California.
Colin and her son Jorge — Perez’s husband — both worked as newspaper carriers.
Apparently, The women and children were returning from a visit to Martha Colin’s mother in Mexicali.
Authorities closed a portion of the southbound lanes for hours and traffic was rerouted on a 33-mile detour.
Also, the California Department of Transportation evaluated the road condition.
Drivers within the crash investigation scene were unable to leave for hours.
