25-Year-Old Santa Rosa Bicyclist Hospitalized after Collision near Boas Drive
SANTA ROSA, CA (November 7, 2018) – A man was listed in a critical condition after a bicycle crash on Highway 12, early Wednesday evening. The victim was later identified by the authorities as 25-year-old Ian Thomas Borden of Santa Rosa.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported around 5:09 PM, near the intersection of Boas Drive, just west of Calistoga Road.
Based on initial reports, Borden was crossing the four-lane highway from north to south without a crosswalk or a signal at the time of the incident. He was struck by a vehicle driven by Citrus Heights resident, Oleksandr Kachan. Borden suffered critical injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. He was listed in critical, but not life-threatening, condition.
The incident closed the eastbound traffic for about three hours while clearing and rescue operations were conducted. No other information has been released to the public, as the investigation continues. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Police at (707) 43-3636.
