2 Injured in San Diego Pedestrian Accident on 47th Street at Hartley Street
SAN DIEGO, CA (November 6, 2019) — Two people sustained injuries in a pedestrian accident on 47th Street at Hartley Street Monday night.
The San Diego Police said the incident occurred at about 7:50 p.m. Four people were crossing in a crosswalk that had flashing yellow crossing lights.
At the same time, a Cadillac sedan failed to stop for the blinking yellow lights while northbound on 47th Street. The vehicle then hit two of the four pedestrians crossing the street. The two were husband and wife according to the police.
First responders took the patients to the hospital. The 34-year-old wife sustained life-threatening injuries including a broken pelvis. On the other hand, the 36-year-old husband suffered a broken leg and other non-life-threatening injuries. Both were crossing the street with their teenage children before the incident.
Meantime, the 54-year-old man driving the Cadillac remained at the scene. The authorities ruled out alcohol or drugs as a factor in the crash.
It is important to abide by all traffic laws and observe safety precautions whether you are a driver or a pedestrian. If you’re driving, avoid distractions and look out for pedestrians at all times. If you’re a pedestrian, cross at designated crosswalks or intersections. Obeying traffic laws and being cautious of the conditions of the road can help prevent an unforeseen accident.
