Driver Runs Stop Sign and Causes Fatal Crash at Lassen Avenue
HURON, CA (May 1, 2018) – One person was killed and another was injured in a speeding accident on Jayne Avenue, early Tuesday morning.
Officers received a report about a crash at Jayne Avenue and Lassen Avenue, just after 6:00 AM. Preliminary investigation found that a red Ford Expedition sped through a stop sign and hit a grey Nissan Altima. The impact of the crash caused the vehicles to spin out into a nearby field.
According to investigators, the man driving the Expedition was traveling at about 70 miles an hour when he drove through the stop sign and struck the second vehicle. He was arrested by authorities for gross vehicular manslaughter. The driver of the Altima died at the scene.
A total of five people were riding the SUV when the crash occurred. One passenger was taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Officers stated they were headed to work in the fields and that they were wearing their seatbelts.
The identity of the deceased victim has not been released, pending notification of family. No additional information is available at this time.
