Two People Fatally Injured in Fiery Head-On Collision near 22 Freeway
SANTA ANA, CA (June 28, 2018) – Two people were killed Thursday morning after a luxury sedan collided head-on with a motorcycle on the 5 Freeway. 36-year-old Hugo Juarez, of Santa Ana, was later identified as the motorcyclist killed in this incident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place shortly before 4:00 AM, near the 22 Freeway. A southbound 2002 Jaguar was heading northbound in the carpool lane of the 5 Freeway when it struck an oncoming 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by Juarez.
The impact of the collision ejected Juarez and started a fire, engulfing both vehicles in flames. Both motorists were pronounced dead at the scene. A GoFundMe page was created to assist Juarez’s family with funeral expenses. Click on the link to donate.
Investigators will conduct a test to determine if alcohol or drugs were involved in the deadly wrong-way collision. It was also noted that Juarez was equipped with the complete safety gear, but it wasn’t enough to save the rider. The identity of the Jaguar driver was not immediately available.
Affected areas were temporarily shut down and traffic was backed up for miles. Several lanes were later reopened around 6:30 AM. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved loved ones of Hugo Juarez and the other victim. Juarez leaves behind a wife, a 15-year-old daughter, and a 13-year-old son. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. May they both rest in peace.
