78-Year-Old Colorado Man Fatally Injured in Pedestrian Collision near Church Street
VISALIA, CA (April 5, 2018) – A pedestrian collision on Acequia Avenue took the life of a Colorado man, early Thursday morning. The victim was later identified as 78-year-old Hugh Phillips.
According to Visalia Traffic Unit officers, they received a call about a fatal pedestrian collision around 6 AM on Acequia near Church Street. Phillips was trying to get to his car across the street when a Ford F150 pickup, driven by 55-year-old Marvin Adams, struck him.
Philips was rushed to the Kaweah Delta Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical professionals. Adams stayed at the scene to cooperate with the police in determining how the collision occurred.
Initial reports stated that the victim was crossing in an unmarked crosswalk. He was also staying in Visalia Comfort Suites hotel and got out to move his car across the street.
Drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the deadly collision. Affected roads were shut down as investigators collected evidence and measured tire marks to calculate the truck’s actions seconds before the collision.
