43-Year-Old West Covina Woman Fatally Struck by Vehicle near Nogales Street
WEST COVINA, CA (October 31, 2018) – On Wednesday evening, a woman was killed in a pedestrian accident on Amar Road. The deceased victim was later identified as 43-year-old Hua Xu Li of West Covina.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 6:51 PM, near the intersection of Nogales Street.
West Covina Police stated that Li was standing by a bus stop when a 2004 Saturn Ion heading northbound on Nogales Street crossed the intersection. There, it jumped the curb and hit a traffic light, before striking her. First responders arrived at the scene to find the injured woman on the sidewalk, in an unresponsive state. SHe succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on site.
The driver of the vehicle, only identified as a 74-year-old Arizona woman, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. Her condition is unknown at this time. No charges against her have been filed, as the investigation continues.
The intersection was closed for several hours, as cleanup and investigation took place. Deputies assisted with traffic control until the roads were reopened. The West Covina Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the cause of the collision. No furthers details have been disclosed on the fatal incident.
