SMITH COUNTY, TX (January 24, 2023) – Friday morning, Howard Patrea died in a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 80 and Farm to Market Road 1253.
The incident happened at 10:59 a.m. on US Highway 80 and Farm to Market Road 1253.
According to reports, 89-year-old Howard Patrea of Mineola didn’t stop at a stop sign at the intersection. As a result, the driver of a 2016 Ford Mustang crashed into Patrea’s vehicle on the driver’s side.
Meanwhile, responders declared Howard Patrea dead at the scene.
Moreover, responders took two passengers in Patrea’s vehicle to a hospital in Tyler for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Also, responders transported the Mustang driver to a Tyler hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
Also, the preliminary investigation revealed that vehicle 2 headed east on US 80. Meanwhile, vehicle 1 had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of US 80 and FM 1253.
Then, officers confirmed that the driver of vehicle 1 didn’t yield the right of way to vehicle 2. As a result, vehicle 2 crashed into vehicle 1 on the driver’s side.
