1 Dead in Orange Auto Accident on Katella Avenue and Tustin Street

ORANGE, CA (July 10, 2023) – Saturday night, a horrific wrong-way crash on Katella Avenue and Tustin Street killed 1 person.

The incident began at 8:19 p.m. when dispatchers received reports about a man who passed out in the driver’s seat of a Hyundai Elantra at a green light. The initial incident happened at Katella Avenue and Tustin Street, revealed Orange police Lt. Phillip McMullin.

“At 8:20 p.m. and as patrol officers were responding, the driver awoke and proceeded west on Katella,” McMullin revealed. “Between Cambridge and Shaffer streets, the Hyundai drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with a Toyota Tundra and a Honda Insight.”

The impact ejected the driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai. Then, Orange firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene.

Also, the authorities haven’t determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash or if the driver of the Hyundai experienced a medical emergency.

However, officers revealed that they had prior arrests for DUI and being under the influence of controlled substances, McMullen added.

Moreover, the Tundra driver and his 4-year-old daughter were transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Then, the Honda driver stayed at the scene with minor injuries. Both of these drivers showed no signs of impairment.

Officers also shut down Katella Avenue between Cambridge and Shaffer Streets for the investigation.

Furthermore, they urged anyone with information to call Det. Rocha at 714-744-7342.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
