1 Person Dead in Merced County Auto Accident on Highway 59 near Fields Road

MERCED COUNTY, CA (February 8, 2024) – Saturday morning, a horrific rollover crash on Highway 59 near Fields Road killed one person.

The incident happened at around 12:43 a.m. on northbound Highway 59, 59, north of Fields Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a northbound 2017 Toyota Yaris veered to the right for still unknown reasons. Then, the vehicle continued to the east shoulder and rolled over multiple times. Also, the force of the crash ejected the 58-year-old male driver and his 60-year-old male passenger onto the roadway.

Moreover, responders pronounced the passenger, dead at the scene. Then, paramedics transported the driver to a local hospital with major injuries.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
