HOUSTON, TX (January 14, 2024) – Friday morning, a horrific police chase crash on Interstate 45 and Interstate 610 killed 2 people.

The incident happened just after 1:00 a.m. as patrol officers noticed a stolen car on Broadway Street near Santa Elena Street.

Thus, officers tried to pull over the vehicle but the driver continued driving, which led to the chase.

“They verified the vehicle was stolen through our dispatchers, and attempted to make a traffic stop,” Asst. Chief Kevin Deese revealed. “The driver refused to stop, traveled north on Broadway, ended up on the Gulf Freeway.”

Then, the driver failed to navigate the turn as he took the Interstate 610 exit from the Interstate 45 Gulf Freeway. As a result, the driver hit the railing and rolled over, leading the car to land on its roof.

The impact killed both the driver and the young man in the front seat. Officers suspect that the deceased were around 18 to 20 years old.

Meanwhile, two other people occupied the back seat, a juvenile female and an adult man. Both of them were transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Also, the authorities shut down the exit ramp from I-45 north to I-610 east as crews continued to investigate the deadly crash.
