Deputy Involved in San Joaquin County Pedestrian Accident on Waterloo Road near Piccoli Road
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CA (February 27, 2024) – Late Sunday night, a homeless person died in a horrific pedestrian crash on Waterloo Road near Piccoli Road.
The incident occurred at about 11:20 p.m. along Waterloo Road near Piccoli Road just outside of Stockton city limits and near Highway 99, officials revealed.
Reports said that a San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office K9 deputy was driving eastbound on Waterloo at an unknown speed in a patrol vehicle. Then, at the same time, the pedestrian was in the roadway.
As a result, the deputy struck the pedestrian. Then, they attempted to give first aid to the person until medics took over. However, the pedestrian succumbed to injuries at the scene.
Also, the authorities haven’t disclosed the age and gender of the pedestrian. However, the sheriff’s office revealed that the pedestrian was believed to be homeless, and was wearing dark clothing when standing in the middle of the road.
“Any time our deputies are involved in a critical incident such as this, a protocol is invoked, and the incident is thoroughly investigated,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.
The sheriff’s office added that the deputy was on duty at the time of the incident. They added that the deputy was on their way for a break.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
