1 Person Dead in Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident on South Union Avenue near Garden Drive

BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 19, 2023) – Monday morning, a horrific pedestrian crash on South Union Avenue near Garden Drive killed one person.

The incident happened at around 6:00 a.m. on southbound Union Avenue, just north of Garden Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol officer Thomas Martinez, a vehicle struck a pedestrian who was attempting to walk from east to west through Union Avenue traffic lanes.

As a result, paramedics pronounced the victim, a 45-year-old Hispanic man, dead at the scene.

Moreover, the vehicle driver remained at the scene to cooperate with the authorities.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
