OAKLAND, CA (August 29, 2023) – Sunday night, a horrific pedestrian crash on Interstate 580 near Harrison Street killed one person.

The incident happened at around 11:35 p.m. on westbound Interstate Highway 580, near the Harrison Street offramp.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle struck a pedestrian for still unknown reasons. Then, multiple vehicles struck the pedestrian who was already down in the roadway. Also, the driver of the first vehicle that struck the pedestrian called 911 to report the incident.

Moreover, officers confirmed that the pedestrian died in the crash.

Furthermore, the crash closed all westbound lanes of Interstate 580 at Grand Avenue, but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
