PINAL COUNTY, AZ (February 19, 2024) – Sunday morning, a horrific pedestrian crash on Interstate 10 near Mile Marker 185 killed 1 person.

The incident happened at about 6:30 a.m. on Interstate 10 near Mile Marker 185, north of Casa Grande.

According to reports, an ambulance driver probably fell asleep. Then, the ambulance lost control and traveled back and forth across the road. Eventually, it rolled and landed on its wheels near the right shoulder.

Officers said that the driver and a female passenger, both American Medical Response employees, were in the ambulance at the time of the crash. They added that the ambulance was transporting no patients.

Meanwhile, two passersby, a man and woman from different vehicles, pulled over to help the parties in the ambulance. As they tried to help, a vehicle struck the ambulance and both the two civilians.

The male civilian succumbed to injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, responders took the female to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Moreover, the man inside the ambulance suffered minor injuries. Also, the authorities continue to determine whether the man was impaired at the time of the crash.

Meanwhile, the crash shut down Interstate 10 at Casa Blanca Road for seven hours. Also, all lanes have since reopened.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
