1 Dead in Sacramento Pedestrian Accident on Highway 50 and 65th Street
SACRAMENTO, CA (February 14, 2024) – Sunday afternoon, an 8-year-old boy died in a horrific pedestrian crash on Highway 50 and 65th Street.
The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Highway 50, east of 65th Street.
According to reports, a black Toyota blocked the fast lane of westbound 50. Thus, occupants stood next to the vehicle.
Meanwhile, preliminary investigation revealed that the child passengers, an 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, exited the Toyota. Then, they moved out to the center median bordered by concrete k-rails with an opening for construction workers.
Afterward, a 30-year-old San Francisco man driving a Ford westbound on Highway 50, attempted to slow down and turn left to avoid striking the Toyota. However, he entered the center median and struck the two children.
As a result, the 8-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, the 9-year-old girl was transported to the hospital with major injuries.
Officers added that the drivers of both vehicles suffered no injuries.
At this time, the events that led up to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
