ATASCADERO, CA (May 17, 2023) – Early Tuesday morning, a horrific pedestrian crash on Highway 101 and Santa Rosa Road killed 1 person.

The incident happened at about 2:19 a.m. on Highway 101 and Santa Rosa Road.

According to reports, a 32-year-old Atascadero driver headed north on the highway, just north of Santa Rosa Road. However, a pedestrian in the center median stepped out directly in front of the Toyota Tacoma.

Then, the driver failed to stop or avoid hitting the 25-year-old pedestrian. As a result, responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver contacted 911 and he didn’t show any signs of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the crash.

Also, the authorities haven’t disclosed the identity of the deceased due to pending family notification.

The authorities are still investigating whether the man stepped into traffic intentionally or accidentally.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
