1 Dead in Sand Canyon Motorcycle Accident on Big Tujunga Canyon Road

SAND CANYON, CA (September 15, 2023) – Wednesday morning, a horrific hit-and-run crash on Big Tujunga Road killed 1 person.

The incident happened just before 6:00 p.m. on Big Tujunga Canyon Road near mile marker 7.79 in Tujunga, said Officer Jonathan Boyd, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Altadena Office.

“We got word that it involved a motorcycle rider,” Boyd added.

A motorcycle rider in a black Yamaha bike headed south on Big Tujunga Canyon Road. Then, they crashed with a gray Ford Maverick on the northbound side of the road.

“The motorcycle rider was ejected and had major injuries they later succumbed to,” Boyd added.

Meanwhile, the Ford driver escaped the scene. Then, at around 7 p.m., the authorities found the suspect near Sand and Placerita Canyon Roads in a neighborhood in that area.

A helicopter and officers from the CHP Newhall Area Office found the suspect and took him into police custody.

However, the identity of the suspect and motorcycle rider remained undisclosed.

Furthermore, the authorities urged anyone with information about this crash to contact the Altadena CHP Office at 626-296-8100.
