Horrific Head-On Collision on SR9 Kills 87-Year-Old Burlington Woman [Everson, WA]

Everson, WA (July 19, 2024) On Wednesday morning, an 87-year-old woman was killed and a man in his 80s was hurt in a horrific head-on collision on SR9.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the fatal 2-vehicle collision happened around 9:45 a.m. on Lawrence Road (SR9) north of the Mount Baker Highway (SR542).

Reports say that a southbound 2003 Chevrolet Express van crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2013 Toyota Corolla hatchback.

Officials say that occupants of the Toyota, a man and woman in their 80s from Burlington, were rushed to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham. Authorities say that the female passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital.

WSP says that the driver of the Chevy, a 29-year-old man from Auburn, was not hurt in the crash. Officials say that distracted driving is the factor in the fatal collision.
