CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (July 5, 2023) – Tuesday, a horrific car crash on 7400 Highway 361 killed 1 person.

The car crash that killed one woman happened in the 7400 block of Highway 361 near the Mayan Princess Condominiums.

Due to the crash, the authorities shut down Highway 361 for several hours and reopened before midnight.

Corpus Christi Police Department Public Information Lt. Michael Peña confirmed that the crash involved two cars. One of the vehicles traveled north while the other was driving south when the crash occurred.

As a result, responders transported two people from each vehicle to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Peña added that an unsafe turn caused the crash. However, they haven’t clarified whether driving under the influence played a role. He also advised motorists to be cautious if they plan to drink alcohol this Fourth of July.

“Slow down,” he added. “If you do plan on drinking, there are so many different options to get home safely, whether it is having a designated driver, Lyft, or taxi cab. Be aware of your surroundings if you are traveling at night time. Slow down if you are turning onto a roadway or private drive — make sure it is safe to do so before making that turning movement.”

Reports confirmed that the crash marked the second traffic accident causing a fatality in less than a week on Hwy. 361.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
