COALINGA, CA (December 19, 2023) – Sunday morning, a horrific box truck accident on Interstate 5 and Xenia Avenue killed 1 person

The incident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. on northbound Interstate 5, south of Xenia Avenue in the Coalinga area.

According to reports, a Bakersfield man parked his 2008 Toyota Camry on the right-hand asphalt shoulder of northbound I-5.

Meanwhile, the driver of a 2016 Mercedes box truck driving in the northbound lanes let the truck drift off the roadway and made contact with the rear of the Camry.

As a result, the man sitting in the driver seat of the Camry died in the crash and his passenger was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Also, responders took the driver of the truck to the hospital with minor injuries.

Furthermore, the authorities ruled out alcohol and/or drugs as a contributing factor in this crash.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
