1 Killed in Merced Bicycle Crash on West Childs Avenue near G Street

MERCED, CA (January 17, 2024) – Friday night, a person died in a horrific bicycle accident on West Childs Avenue near G Street.

The incident happened at around 10:00 p.m. in the area of West Childs Avenue, between G Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Merced Police Sgt. Nathan McKinnon revealed that a vehicle struck a bicyclist.

When officers arrived, they found the victim down in the road. Meanwhile, they also located a Dodge sedan with a large hole in the windshield.

However, despite life-saving measures, the woman was eventually declared dead at the scene.

Reports revealed that a 42-year-old Merced woman drove west on West Childs Avenue. However, the bicyclist moved directly in front of the vehicle.

Officers said that the 49-year-old bicyclist was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident and the bicycle did not have a light.

Also, the authorities haven’t clarified what direction the bicyclist was traveling at the time of the accident.

Meanwhile, the involved driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and has been cooperative with authorities.

Also, officers suspect that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the accident.
