HIDALGO COUNTY, TX (May 24, 2023) – Tuesday morning, an employee died in a horrific backhoe operator accident on Mile 4 North and Midway Road.

The incident happened at 11:43 a.m. north of Mile 4 North and Midway Road, along a drainage canal.

Officers confirmed that the male victims were employees of Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1.

According to Raul Sesin, the General Manager of the Hidalgo County Drainage District No, two men worked along a leveed area as part of preparations for hurricane season.

Apparently, a backhoe used for the cleanup shifted and went down an embankment. As a result, one worker succumbed to injuries while another sustained injuries.

Also, the authorities haven’t disclosed the identities of the victim.

Mr. Sesin added, “The Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 expresses its deepest condolences to the family of our deceased team member and his coworkers.”

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
