According to the Amarillo Police Department, the SUV-big rig collision happened at about 8:20 a.m. on WB I-40 at US 287.
Reports say that a big rig was merging from the shoulder towards I-40 when the SUV struck it from the rear.
Medics airlifted a patient from the SUV to the hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries, while another person on the SUV was taken to the hospital by ground ambulance.
