Woman Dies in Auto-Pedestrian Crash on Interstate 5 in South Bay

South Bay, CA (August 1, 2024) – A woman died in a crash on Interstate 5 after being struck by two vehicles.

Just before 4 a.m., the unidentified pedestrian, who was walking within the southbound lanes north of Dairy Mart Road, was hit by a Ford Fusion driven by a 41-year-old man from Tijuana. 

The pedestrian was then struck by an unknown vehicle that left the scene.

The victim sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office.

The driver of the Ford is cooperating with authorities. A toxicology report is pending through the Medical Examiner’s office to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor.

All southbound lanes of I-5 north of Dairy Mart were closed during the investigation, which is being conducted by the CHP.
