Far and Fiery Car Accident near Santa Monica Boulevard
HOLLYWOOD, CA (May 7, 2018) – One person died in a fiery crash on 101 Freeway, not long after a hit-and-run incident occurred in the same area, early Monday morning.
The fatal crash happened at around 2:00 AM on the 101 highway, just north of Santa Monica Boulevard, when a white Ford Fusion drove off the road. The driver lost control on the northbound lane of the freeway at Santa Monica Boulevard and struck a concrete barrier after going up the embankment.
The vehicle then crashed into a retaining wall in the right shoulder area. The Ford ended up back on the roadway where it caught fire. One person inside the vehicle was killed in the crash.
A second person was first believed to have gotten out of the wreck but authorities confirmed later that the person killed was likely the only one in the car at the time.
Before this crash occurred, a hit-and-run happened nearby on the 101 Freeway. A witness stated that the suspected hit-and-run driver fled the scene before it was involved in the fiery crash. Investigators have not confirmed if the Ford was indeed involved in the earlier hit-and-run incident.
A SigAlert was raised at around 2:30 AM for the closure on all except one lane on the northbound side of the freeway, while the investigation was taking place. All lanes were open by 6:00 AM.
