Two Brothers Killed in Collision with Big Rig near Magnolia Avenue
SHAFTER, CA (July 11, 2018) – Two people were killed Wednesday morning after their vehicle collided with a big rig on 7th Standard Road. Authorities identified 20-year-old Hodari Cooper Jr and 13-year-old Hakiam Cooper as the victims of this tragic incident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at about 6:30 AM on 7th Standard Road near Magnolia Avenue.
For unknown reasons, an eastbound Dodge Journey crossed over into westbound traffic and collided with a big rig. The impact killed the driver, Hodari, at the scene of the crash. His brother, Hakiam, was taken to the Kern Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. At least two other passengers in the Dodge were reportedly hospitalized with serious injuries. The truck operator was unharmed and stayed at the scene to cooperate with authorities during their investigation.
Authorities believe that alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the deadly collision. An investigation is ongoing to determine the events leading to the crash. No other information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
