Woman Dies After Crash on South Sixth Avenue in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (August 8, 2024) – Early Wednesday, a 41-year-old woman died in a hit-and-run crash on South Sixth Avenue.

Tucson Police reported that the driver fled the scene. Officers responded to a hit-and-run report just before 1 a.m. near South Sixth Avenue and West 44th Street. 

Medics declared the woman dead at the scene. Witnesses told detectives that the woman was in the universal turn lane on Sixth Avenue, south of 44th Street, when the car hit her. 

The vehicle was traveling north, veering from the median lane through the universal lane, and left of center before hitting the woman in the turn lane. 

She was approximately 60 feet south of a marked crosswalk at the time. The reason for the car’s erratic movements remains undetermined. 

The investigation is focusing on the driver who left the scene, and it is ongoing.
