Man Severely Injured After Hit-And-Run Crash on Interstate 5 in Shasta County
Shasta County, CA (October 6, 2023) – Early Friday morning, a 56-year-old man sustained severe injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 5.
The crash happened around 5:35 a.m. on October 6.
The incident started when a 22-year-old man was driving a 2019 Toyota Highlander on southbound Interstate 5 south of Sweetbrier Avenue in Shasta County.
Shortly after, the CHP said a 56-year-old man observed the crashed Toyota Highlander from the northbound lanes of I-5 and pulled over to check on the people in the car.
When the 56-year-old man exited his car and crossed the northbound lanes of I-5 and tried to help the people in the car.
That’s when he was struck by an unknown vehicle which then immediately fled the scene.
Then, a 55-year-old man driving a 2022 Ford Ranger southbound on I-5 south of Sweetbrier Avenue was unable to avoid a collision with the tree in the southbound lanes of I-5.
According to CHP, the driver of the 2019 Toyota Highlander and passenger were taken to Mercy Mount Shasta with minor injuries.
The 56-year-old man was taken to Marcy Redding with serious injuries.
The CHP said this incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Officer E. Padilla at the CHP Mount Shasta Office at 530-926-2627.
