Jose Andres Mateo Rodas Arrested after Crash on Cottonwood Avenue in Moreno Valley

Moreno Valley, CA (November 17, 2023) – Early Friday morning, a 52-year-old Eastern Municipal Water District employee sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Cottonwood Avenue.

Authorities reported that Jose Andres Mateo Rodas, 21, of Moreno Valley, was apprehended almost immediately following the incident and was subsequently arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside.

 Rodas faces charges of hit-and-run resulting in great bodily injury and driving under the influence. Bail information was not immediately available.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said that the incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. when Rodas allegedly hit a 52-year-old Eastern Municipal Water District employee working in the area of Cottonwood Avenue and Graham Street. 

Following the collision, the suspect reportedly fled the scene at high speed, prompting witnesses to call 911.

Paramedics and patrol deputies swiftly arrived at the location and found the EMWD employee with non-life-threatening injuries. The injured man was transported to Riverside University Medical Center for treatment.

Deputies initiated a citywide search based on a description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. The car was located a short time later, about two blocks south of the incident, near the main entrance to March Air Reserve Base at Cactus Avenue and Frederick Street.
