Merced County Traffic Collision Delays Traffic
Merced County, CA (June 28, 2023) – On Sunday, a 47-year-old male motorcycle driver and his 41-year-old female passenger, both of Patterson, were injured in a Highway 99 collision.
The traffic collision unfolded at about 4:30 p.m. north of Collier Road.
CHP said the two riders were riding a 2013 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on the freeway when a 2015 Mercedes SUV in from of them suddenly stopped due to traffic.
According to the authorities, the SUV was traveling around 65 mph.
The motorcycle swerved to the left and hit a concrete guardrail in the center median before it collided with the SUV, wherein the two riders were ejected.
Immediately, the paramedics airlifted the motorcycle driver an area hospital for treatment of major injuries while the passenger was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Both riders were wearing helmets during the accident.
The SUV driver did not sustain injuries from the collision.
Officers said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the Merced County traffic collision.
