Hemet Officer Hospitalized after On-Duty Crash
HEMET, CA (March 5, 2019) – A police officer was injured following a broadside crash late Tuesday afternoon in Hemet.
The collision happened around 5:35 p.m. at the intersection of Juanita Street and Central Avenue.
The officer was driving through the intersection, going to investigate an incident with his roof-mounted light bar illuminated. Soon after, a green Honda Del Sol struck his patrol unit on the driver’s side.
It was not known if the officer reported the crash via his radio or if a witness called 911. However, emergency personnel arrived at the scene within moments of the accident.
The officer sustained upper-body injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
A medical team treated the occupants of the Honda. However, reports show they were uninjured and did not require further treatment.
The intersection where the accident occurred has a stop sign in the direction the patrol vehicle had been traveling. Also, the Honda was not required to stop and had the right of way.
No one was arrested at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
