Evening Collision on Highway 74 in Hemet Ends in Fatality
HEMET, CA (January 11, 2019) – A motorist was killed after crashing his pickup truck into a tree Friday evening in Hemet, CHP officials said.
The fatal crash happened a little before 10:00 p.m. on Highway 74 at Blackburn Road, a quarter mile West of Cranston Fire Station.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a red Ford Ranger pickup truck collided with a large tree, causing it to fall onto the eastbound lanes of Highway 74. The collision also caused the tree to fall onto the pickup, crushing it.
A Honda CRV traveling eastbound on the highway collided with the tree as it fell onto the roadway.
Responding paramedics pronounced the pickup truck’s driver dead at the scene.
The Honda CRV sustained moderate damage with one occupant transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
It is unknown if intoxication was a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
