Helmut Stich and Karen Stich Killed in Highway 46 Collision [Templeton, CA]

Ford Driver Injured in Templeton Fatal Crash

Templeton, CA (August 2, 2024)Helmut Stich, 83, and Karen Stich, 72, both of Paso Robles, were killed in a Highway 46 collision Wednesday.

It was around midnight when the two-vehicle crash happened on the eastbound lanes of the highway, four miles east of the Cholame Y.

CHP officers said a Hyundai attempted to pass a tractor trailer and drove into the oncoming lane. The Hyundai then collided head-on with an oncoming truck.

The driver and passenger of the Hyundai, Helmut Stich and Karen Stich, were killed at the scene.

The Ford driver, a 59-year-old San Diego man, was transported to an area hospital with major injuries.

CHP officers said one of the vehicles caught fire.
