Father and Daughter Fatally Injured in Four-Vehicle Collision near Interstate 680, Jessica Martin Arrested
WALNUT CREEK, CA (October 25, 2018) – Early Thursday evening, one man and his child were killed in a four-vehicle accident on South Broadway. The deceased victims have been identified as 45-year-old Hector Garza and his 8-month-old daughter, Camilla Rose Garza.
According to Lt. Joe Donleavy with the Walnut Creek Police, they received multiple 911 calls regarding a fatal collision. The accident took place just around 6:30 PM on South Broadway near Interstate 680.
35-year-old Jessica Martin from Tennessee was traveling southbound on S Broadway when she veered into oncoming traffic. There, she crashed into three other northbound vehicles.
The driver of the first vehicle had to be extricated and was transported via ambulance to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the third vehicle, who was also transported to the hospital, suffered minor injuries. Their current medical conditions are unknown.
Garza, who was driving the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, while Camilla was transported to the Children’s Hospital in Oakland with severe head trauma. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on Tuesday, October 30th. A GoFundMe page was set up to help family members with memorial expenses.
Martin was arrested after receiving treatment for moderate injuries at John Muir Medical Center. A passenger in her vehicle sustained minor injuries, and is being questioned by authorities.
On Tuesday, the Contra Costa County district attorney’s office announced that Martin is being charged with two counts of murder, one count of driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury, one count of driving with a 0.8 percent blood content causing injuries. Martin currently remains in custody on a $2.1 million bail.
